Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB) was elected in a public survey, undertaken by youth of the Pássaro Azul (Bluebird) Club of Beira, as the Best Economic Personality of 2009 and the Chairperson of the HCB Board of Directors, Dr. Paulo Muxanga, was elected figure of the Year for 2009.
A Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa, S. A (HCB), antecipou a 18 de Dezembro, o seu presente natalício aos escritores moçambicanos. Num evento que teve lugar na sede da Associação dos Escritores Moçambicanos (AEMO), a HCB, através do representante do Presidente do Conselho de Administração, Dr. Manuel Tomé, informou aos participantes e convidados que se deslocaram para testemunhar a cerimónia de entrega do Prémio Literário José Craveirinha, que o período de atribuição do prémio passaria a ser bienal, que o valor aumentaria de USD 5 mil para USD 25 mil, e que premeia-se não uma obra, mas uma carreira, facto que agradou aos demais.
On this July in Toronto, Canada, a convention about hygiene and health at work centered on the subject “Safety, Leadership and Culture” will be taking place, with the objective of promoting the culture of zero work accidents on organizations. The Hydroelectric of Cahora Bassa participates in this convention, represented by Engineer Adelino Manuel, responsible for hygiene and safety matters in HCB’s work, which hopes among other aspects to bring and obtain experiences about safe practices, tools and essential systems that may help the company to level its culture with the safety values.
The province of Tete, specifically the district of Cahora Bassa, already has its higher education institution that is inclined to teaching courses of electrical engineering, mechanics and building industry, thanks to a funding from HCB to the Ministry of Education and Culture. With about 75 students coming from almost every province in the country, this institute is equipped with a board of directors, teacher rooms, classrooms and computer rooms, among other rooms. A hall to welcome the respective students was also built. The funding and construction of that building were under the responsibility of the Hydroelectric of Cahora Bassa.
In the range of the visits made to the enterprise for educational purposes, the Hydroelectric of Cahora Bassa received the visit of students from the Teacher Training Colleges of Tete and Chimoio, composed by 15 students and two teachers. This visit, which took place on April 6th of the current year served to deepen the students’ knowledge in what comes to dams and hydroelectrics.
The 7th of April, the Mozambican Women’s Day was celebrated in commemoration of one more anniversary of the death of Josina Machel, national hero. This is a date that is celebrated by women with great exhilaration, because it symbolizes their emancipation and the recognition of the important role, played by them on the development of their country.
The Hydroelectric of Cahora Bassa (HCB) received, on the past 12th of March, a visit from the King of Swaziland, Mswati III, and this one being the first visit of this Monarch to the enterprise. His arrival to Mozambique was in consequence of an invitation sent by the Mozambican Head of State, and his visit to HCB fits in the range of trips that the king intended to take to locations of socio-economic interest in Mozambique.
With the aim of improving their working conditions, the Hydroelectric of Cahora Bassa offered three computers to the Association of the Blind and the Partially Sighted (ACAMO). This support came from the acknowledgement of the company in supporting associations with the objective of defending and fighting for the rights of different social groups, such as the visual and physically impaired, and children, among other social groups.
The Hydroelectric of Cahora Bassa has a new image that now fundamentally establishes a Brand by means of a logotype created for the post-reversion period of the company. “Proudly ours” – is the new slogan for the Hydroelectric of Cahora Bassa.
As part of the company’s social responsibility policy, about 40 lamps for public lighting, using a system of solar panels as their source of energy, have been set up in villages located on the road between Songo and Matambo.
